Fr. Babu Thelappilly was born and brought up in the Syro-Malabar Roman Catholic Church (one of the Eastern Rite) in India. He completed his Masters in Psychology and Social Work (MSW) as well as Civil Law (LLB) in India. His native language is Malayalam; he also speaks English, Tamil and Hindi. Fr. Babu came to the United States for further Studies at Seton Hall University. There he received his Vocation to the Priesthood. Completing his Masters in Divinity, he was ordained by the Archbishop (Emeritus) John Joseph Mayer at Newark Cathedral basilica. He is one of the six priests of his father’s heritage. His family was also blessed with many religious nuns. His Father, Thomas Thelappilly went for his eternal reward in heaven on January 12, 2015. His mother, Annam Thomas Thelappilly, who has dementia, is cared for by his 4 siblings and their families. His parents are the greatest benefactors in the Church since they gave their son to the Church. Keep them in your prayers. Fr. Babu served the Auxiliary Bishop of Newark, Edgar da Cunha, for about 13 years, until the bishop moved to the Diocese of Falls River. He was given the opportunity to serve as Rector & Novice master at the seminary of the Vocationist Fathers in Florham Park, NJ. Fr. Babu also ministered as a priest at St. Nicholas Parish, Palisades Park and St. Michael’s Parish, Newark. In the Diocese of Paterson, his first assignment was at St. Peter the Apostle Church, Parsippany. At that time, he became an American citizen. Thereafter, he ministered at our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Pompton Plains and St. Virgil’s Parish, Morris Plains. He is grateful and excited to be apart of the OLM Parish and work with our pastor Fr. Steve, as we all journey in the service of the Lord. He asks for our prayers, that he may always keep his eyes fixed on the face of Jesus Christ and serve our parish as a holy priest.

The Fr. English Food Pantry is still providing about 175 families each day with basic food. Carlos Roldan and the staff at the Food Pantry recognize OLM parishioners as one of their most reliable supporters and express their appreciation for us each time we deliver the food from OLM. A huge thank you to all who have been dropping off food at OLM. Cereal, is one staple that they are always short on. As we continue to collect for Fr. English, please provide an extra box or two of cereal in your next drop off.
August 15th – Our Lady of the Magnificat welcomes Fr. Babu as Parochial Vicar. We assure him of our support and assistance as together we walk along the way of Christ.
